Wonder Festival 2009 Event Report (bilingual)

まず、日本のイベント事情にあまり詳しくない人のためにおさらいしておこう。ワンフェスとは造形メーカー海洋堂が主催する世界一のガレージキットイベントである。もともとこのイベントは、エヴァンゲリオンで有名なガイナックスの前身である、ゼネラルプロダクツによって始められた。ゼネラルプロダクツとその変遷については「オタクのビデオ」を参照するといい。ともかくこのゼネラルプロダクツによってワンダフェスは1992年まで開催され、それ以降は海洋堂が引き継いでいる。会場は企業ブースと個人またはサークルによる同人ブースに別れているが、プロの造型師なども同人として参加しているあたりはコミックマーケットと一緒である。

First, an overview of the event for people who don't know about it well. Wonder Festival is the world biggest garage kit event and held in Japan. It was started by General Products - now known as Gainax, the well known producer of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" - in 1984. If you don't know much about GP, you should watch "Otaku no Video," which is basically a history lesson of that time. Kaiyodo had taken over management from 1992. The event is separated into Company and Doujin (amateur) booths, the latter run by semi-professional circles of creators like Comiket.







前置きが長くなったが、イベントのレポートに移ろうと思う。会場で最も多く目にしたのはやはり「初音ミク」関係の作品だった。昨年の登場以来不動の人気を保持しているあたりはさすがと言える。ついで目を引いたのが「けいおん」だ。放送開始以来爆発的な人気を誇り、先日惜しまれながらも放送を終了しただけあって、フィギュアの登場が今最も待ち望まれている作品である。それ以外だとロングセラーの「なのは」関係が多かったような気がする。やはりフェイトはいい。余談だが、今あげた三作品に関係する音楽が、いずれも日本音楽史上初の快挙を成し遂げている。初音ミクのフューチャリングCDはこれまで数多くランキングされており、「けいおん」に至ってはオープニング、キャラソンともに1位を獲得するという快挙を成し遂げている。また、「なのは」のフェイト役で有名な水樹奈々のアルバム「ULTIMATE_DIAMOND」は至上初の声優によるアルバムランキング1位を獲得した。







Now to the event report! There was a lot of figures of Hatsune Miku. She appeared last year and captured the hearts of many otaku, myself included. Good Smile sold a Wonder Festival exclusive Figma of Miku with extra accessories and paper craft stage display. Only 1500 were made for the event and sold out in the first 20 minuets of the doors opening. The "K-On" figures also were outstanding. Once the anime aired it was was great all the way to the end, it ended last month and many people were sad. (Yeah, I am also in love with Mio...). Many people are waiting for the figures to be released. In other news, there were some figures of "Nanoha," a long-time favorite. (Well... Fate is goooood....too). Adding to this, the music for these three titles had excellent sales in Japan. Miku's music and "K-On"'s opening and character songs have ranked high on the charts. "Nana Mizuki," the famous seiyuu playing Fate, launched her 7th album "Ultimate Diamond" this year. It ranked 1st on the album-charts, a first for a seiyuu CD.

企業ブースで注目を浴びていたのが「GOOD SMILE COMPANY」と「MAX FACTORY」による特設ライブステージだ。全4回で構成され、様々なアーティストや有名人によるライブやトークショーが行われた。(なお、撮影は許可されなかったので写真はない) 個人的によかったのはsuaraの「夢想歌(うたわれるものOP)」だろう。我らが戦うオタクファイター「長島自演乙雄一郎」も巡音ルカのコスプレで出演していた。歌ったのは「ダブルラリアット」で格闘家のバランス感覚を生かしてずっと回りながら歌っていた。トリを努めたのは「奥井雅美」で「ロンドレボリューション(ウテナOP)」は会場が一体と化しての大合唱だった。

"Good Smile Company" and "Max Factory" had live stage performances that attracted a lot of people. Many artists and famous people showed up to talk and perform. I heard a great song of Soura's "Musou-Uta," the opening of "Utawareru-mono." I was struck by the great urge to shout "Eluluuuuuuu!!!!!" The great otaku fighter "Nagashima Yuichirou" sang the song "Double Raliat" by cycling his body. This apparently had something to do with his great balance as a fighter... In the final stage, Okui Masami sang "Revolution" from "Utena," and the audience sang with her.







一時中止の声もささやかれたワンフェスだったが、一年のインターバルを経ての素晴らしいイベントであった。ちなみに会場で撮った写真がマクロスばっかりなのはカメラマンがエイドリアンだったからだ。

The Fest has ended, but it was a great event after a year wait. For those who are interested, there are many "Macross" pictures because Adrian is still crazy about it and had the camera... Sorry.
