Comiket 75 Tokyo: Itasha Photo Gallery

30.12.2008 by ADK

Out of the roughly 520,000 visitors of this winter's Comiket at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba, some 50 drove their vehicles around the main area, down to the the sea shore, to a special parking lot; a pedestrian walkway right next to the Suijobus Waterway Station, which had been transformed into an Itasha exhibition space for three days.
Here, unlike at the ever-crowded halls of the main area, one had in fact enough space and time to have some decent shots taken of the subjects without stepping on someone's feet, barging into their shoulder or headbutting them accidentally. Also given that it was at a rather hidden location and not really related to the real Comike. A completely clear sky did its best to create a perfect scenery for these machines and roundabout everyone seemed to enjoy seeing these cool autos all lined up at one place.

A fancy Chevrolet Camaro z28 was parked there, promoting Yamaha's synthetic singing software Vocaloid and a tank-lookalike-contest-participant from the creators of Clannad & AIR: Key Visual Arts, with some fine AIR graphics on both sides, as well as sports and muscle cars ornamented with the designs of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, Fate/Stay Night and many more. Some of these kids must have spent fortunes of Yen for these. Some more pictures plus a true feature on the Itasha phenomenon can be found here: Itai culture: A closer look at otaku vehicles. But first, check out these!
