Tamashii Nation Autumn 2009
01.10.2009 by Patrick W. Galbraith
The press event for Tamashii Nation Autumn 2009was held Thursday October 1 at Akiba Square in the UDX Building. The event was dominated by but fans have a lot of other products to look out for this weekend.
The event began with a guest appearance by Kirin, a famous pair of stand-up comedians. The duo talked about how much they loved "Saint Seiya," and how much they wanted the figures when they were young. The original toy commercials were played for them, followed by the introduction of the newest line. Kirin agreed that these new models were awesome, and then posed for pictures. Tamura Hiroshi carried a 1:1 scale box from "Saint Seiya" on his back and was his goofy self. Kawashima Akira did his thing and looked pretty.
Inside, I was pleasantly suprised to find that, for the first time ever, all the existing "Saint Seiya" figures were on display. This was a massive exhibition, dominating perhaps 2/3 of the space. The rooms and rooms of "Saint Seiya" included figures, designs and molds, dioramas, a 1:1 scale set of gold armor and weapons, original box art and much more. I tried to get all the pictures I could, because this weekend will be a madhouse full of hungry figure buyers and attendees might not be able to see everything in the myriad cases.
In what remained of the exhibition was the usual tokusatsu-inspired stuff, "Mazinger Z," "Gundam" and so on. Some standouts included "The Big O" chogokin, the Spike's Swordfish from "Cowboy Bebop" and Kaneda and his bike from "Akira." Fans of "Macross" can also rejoice, as there was a strong selection of mecha from the series. Moreover, there were some very cute mini figures, including Ranka as a mecha girl. She was even cuter than the adjacent SD representatives of "Evangelion" and "K-On!" Not sure where it's from, but there was also another awesome mecha girl.
